I WOULD like to express my thanks to a taxi driver from Progress Taxis, Mr Newman who is a credit to his employer.
On October 15, driving to Blackpool, I realised my car was having problems. The honking of other drivers did not help, and as it was raining, for safety reasons pulled into the garage on Devonshire Road. I asked several men calling for petrol to look at the engine, but all said they were in a hurry.
The proprietor at the garage asked the driver to assist me, after looking at the engine he suggested leaving it to cool down and gave me a free lift into Blackpool. I realised after he left I had left my purse in the glove compartment of the car, so my evening out was cut short.
I walked back to the garage in the rain, and sat there debating what to do. Suddenly the same friendly voice at the window asked what I was doing back so quickly. I replied I just wanted to get home, but didn't know if the car was trustworthy. He suggested following me to Poulton in case of difficulties. This he did and, driving slowly, I arrived back safely.
On this occasion helping someone was put before profit, I am not a mini-skirted teenager, I am a female pensioner.
Thank you sir, you're a gent.
