POLICE in Padiham are looking for volunteers to help supervise a "chill out" zone for bored youngsters.
The zone, aimed at 13-17-year olds, will be housed in a room above the pool at Padiham Leisure Centre.
Backed by Lancashire County Council's Youth & Community Services, the borough council and local Community Beat Managers, its aim is to give local youths somewhere safe to spend time rather than having them out on the street causing a problem for residents.
Community Beat Manager PC Lisa Hodgkinson said: "The lack of facilities for local youths was raised as an issue at one of our local PACT (Police and Community Together) meetings.
"This chill out zone is designed to help resolve the issue and give local youths somewhere to go and something to do.
"What we need now is assistance from volunteers who are prepared to give up however much time they can spare - even just a few hours - to help out at the new facility, perhaps by serving drinks for example.
"It's a great opportunity for people to make a difference to the localcommunity and it would be good experience for someone looking to pursue a career in youth work."
Anyone who wants to find out more about the project can contact PC Lisa Hodgkinson on 07984 316862. All volunteers will have to undergo various vetting procedures.
