PADIHAM's unbeaten run of 13 league games came to a surprise end on Saturday.
A woeful defensive display gift-wrapped the points for the mid-table visitors, a series of schoolboy errors enabling New Mills striker Craig Senior to grab a match-winning hat-trick.
Padiham started well and went ahead direct from a Craig Chadwick free kick after 20 minutes, but on 36 minutes a bad mistake by Matt Anderton let Senior in for his first of the afternoon.
Padiham regained the lead four minutes into the second half when a throw-in found Matt Morris in the 18 yard box and his turn and shot ended in the back of the net.
Lee Anderson had a goal ruled out before New Mills drew level on 55 minutes through Gavin Hunter.
Craig Chadwick's poor back pass was then intercepted by Senior and the striker made no mistake to put New Mills in front.
Eight minutes from time a foul by Anderton allowed Senior to complete his hat-trick from the penalty spot.
gave New Mills a chance to make it four from the penalty spot and Senior obliged to complete his hat trick and end Padiham's unbeaten start to the season.
On reflection Padiham still had enough second half chances to have got something out of the game but the close-range misses by Chadwick and Telfer and a great save by Steve Lyons from a Lee Anderson header the Padiham supporters knew it was going to be one of those days.
