CADET Corporal Craig Matthews has been invited to take part in a special Remembrance event overseas.
The 15-year-old from Leigh was selected to represent Greater Manchester as one of 30 cadets who will attend three Remembrance parades in Europe.
The cadets will spend a week in France and Belgium meeting dignitaries from the town of Valenciennes in Ypres and the British Counsel in Lille.
From November 7-12 the youngsters will first attend a ceremony at Menin Gate. They will then move to Ypres and finally Valenciennes to attend remembrance celebrations.
Craig's interest in the army was sparked by both his grandfathers serving in the Second World War, so attending the Remembrance parades was all the more significant for him.
He has been an active member of the Army Cadets since he was 13, and a year ago was promoted to Lance Corporal.
He became corporal only one month ago.
His ambition is to join the army once he leaves St Edmund Arrowsmith Catholic High School, Ashton in Makerfield, next year.
