LEIGH Harriers' Great Britain international Peter Riley made a winning comeback to racing following a devastating injury which put him out of the running for an Olympic 10,000m place earlier in the year.
Competing in the second Reebok Challenge Cross Country in Birmingham on Saturday he showed a clean pair of heels to a top class field over the 10k course, and put himself firmly in the frame for a place in the GB European cross country team.
Peter, who led the British squad home in that event last year, clocked 35min 26sec for the three lap course.
In the U20 event Thomas Boardman improved on his first Reebok run in Falkirk to finish ninth in 38min 37sec over the same distance.
Junior England international Hannah Warburton continued her winning ways in the NW Womens CC League at Heaton Park.
Running in the U15 agegroup over 4k Hannah was with the leading group from the gun and raced away in the last half mile for a convincing win in 17min 30sec.
In the same race Lauren Howarth ran well to finish ninth in 19min 25sec.
In the U17 race over 4.5k Rebecca Howarth ran a competitive race to finish third in 21min 7sec.
Sister Abigail continued to impress in the U13 event and raced to seventh in a good class field clocking 13min 45sec.
In the Manchester Cross County League Camaron Adamson crossed the line in ninth over the 3.5k course in 13min 40sec.
The youths' event over a testing two lap 6k course saw Tom Henders find the going tough against a county class field to finish 10th in 25min 55sec.
