FOR the second week running Golborne Parkside faced a wash out when their NWCARL First Round Cup fixture against Oldham St Annes was cancelled due to a waterlogged pitch.
With no second fixture it was another frustrating weekend. Even more so when this weekend the first team are with out a fixture again. At least the second team weather permiting are at home e against Halton Farnworth A in the NWCARL Bowl round 1.
Meanwhile, the young Golborne 18s built on last weeks heroic performance at Blackbrook to record a good away victory at Saddleworth.
A try from Chris Reynolds converted by Stuart Goulden gave Golborne a 6-0 lead. A Goulden penalty goal increased the lead to 8 -0 before Saddleworth replied with a converted try to make the half time score 8 -6.
In the second half two more well struck penalties by Goulden gave Golborne the edge. Saddleworth replying with a penalty to give the Golborne a very well earned 12 -8 victory. Golborne under 16s reached the third round of the BARLA Lancashire cup with a 10-4 victory over local rivals Ashton Bears
The Golborne victory was secured by tries from Danny Smith, Kevin Nicholson and a conversion from Andy Bennett. Golborne 15s gave their best display of the season to take the unbeaten league leaders right to the finish in a very disappointing one point defeat.
Pilkingtons scored an unconverted try to take a 4-0 lead, but a Craig Keating try and goal gave Golborne the advantage 6 - 4. A Keating penalty increased the lead but a Golborne error was punished with a Pilkingtons try and goal to give them a 10-8 interval lead.
An early unconverted try and drop goal in the second half pushed Pilkingtons further ahead.
A try and conversion put Golborne back in it before Pilks went 19-12 up. Another try from Keating closed the gap to one point.
Golborne under 9's completely transformed 12 months development when they dominated a fixture that a year earlier they lost by 12 tries to 2. To record a four-tries each draw confirms the clubs continuing development progress.
