PRESTWICH HEYS 0, BAe SYSTEMS BARROW 1: AS one spectator said on his way out of the ground: "If Heys played all night, they would still never score!"
The visitors from Barrow sent them crashing out of the last 32 of the Lancashire Cup - a competition they should have been more than capable of winning.
The visitors had all the play in the opening 10 minutes.
Goalkeeper Tommy Allen pulled off an excellent save in the fourth minute; John Price cleared off the line in the seventh, and Ant Doran made a goal-line clearance in the 10th.
The home side then knuckled down in the next 20 minutes to show why they were one of the fancied teams for this trophy, creating some excellent scoring chances with the guilty men being Colderidge, Lomax and Uddin, who by their own high standards should have done better.
The second half began with the visitors probing away at the home team goal.
But with Allen in excellent form and the back four holding their shape, it looked like Heys would hold out and even score themselves.
Lomax, with just the keeper to beat hit the post; Garrick, on as a substitute for Roberts, missed the target with a free header; Uddin put his shot wide when in a great position to score; Coldridge decided to pass instead of pulling the trigger and goalkeeper White made an excellent save to deny Lomax again.
Then, in the 75th minute, a sloppy piece of defending from Slater gave a foul away on the edge of the box, and the Barrow centre forward Davenport curled the ball into the top corner of the net even though Allen managed to get his fingers on it.
Marvin Walters replaced Kavanagh and Heys threw on a another forward in the hope of an equaliser, but even with the addition of five extra minutes Heys could not drum up an equaliser.
HEYS: Allen, Price, O'Brien, Slater, Doran, J. Kavanagh, Roberts, K. Kavanagh, Coldridge, Lomax, Uddin. Subs: Garrick, Walters, Dydna.
l The second team, under the management of Liam Byrne, had a excellent 7-1 win over Breightmet reserves, with the scorers Woodcock (3), Hoolichan (2), Bushell and Monks keeping their unbeaten run going.

l The first team are away to Breightmet in the league, kick-off 2pm; the seconds are at home to East Manchester, kick-off 2pm, and the Under 15s are also at home to Roche Dynamos on Sunday.
