A LARGER than life bar tender is aiming to raise money for charity by selling life-size cardboard models of film monsters Alien and Predator.

Russell Baines, 32, of Maynard Street, Ashton, spent a month making each one in time for the release of the Alien vs. Predator, on October 22.

After spending a week at the UCI cinema, Preston Riversway, the monsters moved to the nearby Ribble Pilot pub where Russell works.

He is hoping to sell them for around £120 each to raise money for Make a Wish UK, Preston which grants wishes to children with terminal illnesses.

This is not the first time the self-confessed movie boffin has made life-size cardboard film characters. In 1999 he made Star Wars baddie Darth Vader, to coincide with the release of the Phantom Menace, and last summer he made a Terminator model when Rise of the Machines came out in the cinemas.

"I am running out of space in my house for more models, so I thought I would try to raise some money for charity to get rid of them," said Russell.

"It was at St Augustine's Primary School that I discovered I had a gift for making cardboard models and it has gone from there really.

"They took me about a month each to make working two hours every night after work, all that's to them is cardboard and plastic tape, and the fingers are made from cork.

"I am hoping that a film fan sees them and wants to buy them."

Russell is currently working on a model of Hellboy and is keeping a portfolio of his work and is hoping in the future to sell different types of models to decorate pubs.
