THERE was further evidence of Bury FC's blossoming youth section on Monday evening when the club's youngsters won through to the second round of the FA Youth Cup.
Second half goals from Damien Quigley and Matthew Hampson were enough to see off Wrexham 2-1 in an entertaining encounter at Gigg Lane.
Youth coach Chris Casper's team, made up of first and second year scholars, fully deserved their victory and only a late goal from the Welsh side spoiled an otherwise impeccable display.
Shakers' Head of Youth and Centre of Excellence, Neil Hanks said: "It could all have been over at half time and was ten out of ten for entertainment value. We were well worth the win.
"Im especially delighted for skipper Russell Hitchen who has been out for a year injured, he was like a rock for us on the night."
Ryan Maloney and Nicky Adams were a constant thorn in the side for the Welshmen and they were at the heart of most of the Shakers best moves.
The opening goal arrived after 53 minutes when Quigley raced clear of the Wrexham defence and poked the ball past the visiting keeper despite a stumble.
The vital second came five minutes before the final whistle and was a superbly struck shot from outside the area by Hampson
Squad Chris Pauls, Russell Hitchen (capt), Vassos Theophanous, Ryan Maloney, Aaron Grundy, Keith Wedge, Andy Parish, Damien Quigley, Nicky Adams, Matthew Hampson, Steven Mainwaring.
