WHEN Richard Duffy finally heads back to Portsmouth, Harry Redknapp could have the complete player at his disposal.

Loaned out to Burnley for first team experience, Duffy has already featured at right back, right midfield and, in a match-winning display at Leeds in midweek on the left wing!

Pompey boss Redknapp joked to opposite number Steve Cotterill that he would be delighted if Duffy was getting a game in goal.

And, while it might not come to the 19-year-old donning the gloves and green jersey, there is no doubt that Duffy is enjoying a fast-track to the big time.

He said: "The First Division is a great league to play in. We're just one rung down from the top level in England and for me to play games at this level, I suppose you can't ask for much more as a player.

"I don't mind where I play at the moment, although I last played as a keeper when I was about eight years old!

"It's all about getting games and fitness and if you're called on to play in any position, then you've then played there and gained some experience, so I have no problem playing anywhere."

Duffy, who made the starting line-up at Leeds for the third time since arriving on loan from Fratton Park in late September, added: "I'm really enjoying it.

"I've been in and around the team and obviously I'd like to play more regularly and maybe even stop in the team.

"Hopefully my long-term future is with Portsmouth because they're a Premiership club and it's my ambition to push on and play in the Premiership.

"But Burnley is a big, ambitious club and I came here to play games, so things are working out well."

Duffy is still very much a novice, having played just 30 competitive first team games since bursting onto the scene at his home-town club Swansea, where he scored his first senior goal in the 3-0 victory over Macclesfield in September 2003.

The Welsh U21 international quickly attracted scouts to Vetch Field, and Portsmouth were first to pounce when the teenager had featured in just 18 Division Three games.

Duffy's remarkable rise reached new heights at the end of last season, when he featured as a substitute in Pompey's Premiership game against Fulham.

However, he returned to the shadows last summer, prompting Cotterill to make a move and bolster his squad.

And despite the yawning gulf between Premiership and Championship football, Duffy has been impressed by what he sees at Turf Moor.

He said: "There's not really a lot of difference. You go into training and train the same and even though there are marked differences in the facilities, it's still grass and you still play with the same ball."

Duffy seems likely to return to his favoured right back role against Ipswich Town tomorrow.

Michael Duff's one-match ban opens the door to a more defensive role following his offensive exploits at Elland Road.

And Duffy is hoping the Clarets can build on what he believes was the best team performance since his arrival in midweek.

He said: "We had to pull together really after last Saturday's disappointing result at QPR.

"In training ahead of the Leeds game the lads looked sharp and all the manager asked was for us to give our all, which we did.

"To give the performance we did, with so many players outstanding, was brilliant and I think that's been the best performance since I've been here ... apart from the first 12 seconds!"

He added: "That was a massive three points and it boosted us up the table. Now we need to kick on against Ipswich and hopefully get another three points.

"Really we owe them one after they scored in injury time down there to draw 1-1, but we need to produce another performance like Leeds.

"We had a great run, not to lose for nine games, then we had a little blip. Hopefully now, this is the start of another run."
