A POPULAR Fairfield Hospital porter, who was given the nick-name "Billy X-ray", has died peacefully at the age of 60.
Bachelor Billy Cuncarr, who was born in Radcliffe, died at the Falcon Close residential care home in Bury on Sunday. He leaves a sister, Joan.
Born in Outwood, he was brought up in Milton Road, Radcliffe. After leaving school, he worked for Isherwood Towels in Radcliffe and later at the then Halls confectionery works in Whitefield.
In 1971, Mr Cuncarr became a porter at Bury General Hospital and worked in the X-ray department. When Bury General closed, he moved to Fairfield Hospital. He was well known by hundreds of patients who used the hospitals throughout the years.
Over the years, he was active within the Conservative Party, helping at election time, and was also an avid Bury FC fan and a member of the supporters club.
Funeral arrangements are being handled by Co-op Funeral Services in Bury. A date for the funeral has yet to be announced.
