THREE girls from the Fylde Coast are heading up the charts after a song they recorded was released as a single for Children in Need.
Nina Hardiman, 18, Grace Simpson and Abigail Miller, both 12, thought the song, 'Wind the Bobbin Up' would be heard only at children's music classes up and down the country.
But the track has proved such a big hit with children that it was released commercially this week, with more than £1 from each single sold going to charity.
"We were mentioned by Terry Wogan on his radio programme this morning," said Blackpool and Fylde college student Nina on Tuesday: "We just wants everyone to go out and buy it because it's all for charity.
"We were asked to go and record some samples by Grace's step-dad and we thought it would just be for children to listen to at music classes. Then they told us they were going to release it as a single for Children in Need!"
The girls met at Entertainia dance school in Thornton.
The girls recorded the single at the Warrington studios of Fylde-based recording company, Doodle Box Ltd and has been distributed to classes run by Jo Jingles, the UK's leading provider of fun music classes for children.
'Wind the Bobbin Up' has proved a major hit with children attending Jo Jingles music classes up and down the country, prompting the decision to release it.
The single is available in HMV and Virgin Megastores across the country as well as Cobweb Records in Poulton-le-Fylde.
Advanced sales reached more than 8,000 before the single was released on Monday, and early indications suggest the record will feature in the charts this weekend.
