MURDER squad detectives are still keen to hear from witnesses as the hunt for the killer of Bury worker Robert Johnston enters its fourth week.
The 39-year-old grandfather was repeatedly kicked and stamped on during a frenzied attack in Bolton town centre during the early hours of Saturday, October 15.
Mr Johnston, who lived in Holme Avenue, Bury, until moving to Breightmet in February, died eight hours later in hospital.
Mr Johnston worked as a foreman at Briggs Demolition in Bury and was out celebrating his birthday with his friend, Darren O'Donaghue, of Holme Avenue, when they were attacked by two men.
Mr O'Donaghue suffered minor injuries and managed to flee the attackers.
Since the tragedy, police have arrested three men, including one from Bury, in connection with the murder. All the suspects have been released on police bail to a later date, while inquiries continue.
Detective Superintendent Martin Bottomley, who is leading the investigation, said: "We believe that there are people who, without knowing, could hold that vital piece of evidence that we are after.
"We would also like to speak with anyone who may recognise the description of two men who were seen running away from the scene of the attack.
"The first man was wearing a top with horizontal stripes, had muscular shoulders and short hair. The second man was wearing a dark top with a light or white coloured logo on the front and light coloured trainers. "
Anyone who can help should contact the incident room at Castle Street on 0161 856 5965 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
