I AM grateful to Peter Doherty for the free publicity he gave in last week's Fifth Column to the council's "champions", of whom I am one (environment champion).
Indeed, I am so grateful that I propose Peter be designated a "champion" too. But if we had a Champions' League, as proposed by Peter, I fear he would win every time since he is the undisputed champion for holidays at the Bury Times, judging by the number of times we open our newspaper in eager anticipation only to read that "Peter Doherty is away".
COUNCILLOR DEREK BODEN
l In addition to his role as environment champion, I think the good councillor should put in a bid for "jumping-the-gun champion". Otherwise, why would he presume that because journalist Peter Doherty is "away" (from the office) and therefore unable to write his column, that he is necessarily "on holiday"?
