METROLINK passengers have boarded a campaign to extend the tram service.
Labour Party members and councillors set up stalls at three stations in Prestwich and Whitefield to gather support for the Get Metrolink Back On Track campaign.
The campaign was launched after transport minister Alistair Darling announced that the Government would not support an extension to the tram system.
Passengers were greeted by councillors at Prestwich, Whitefield and Besses oth Barn stations and asked to voice their concerns to the Government by signing a card addressed to Tony Blair.
St Marys councillor Keith Grime said: People were overall very encouraging about the campaign and want the system extended.
We have had 4,000 cards printed so people can fill in their names and addresses and send them off to the Prime Minister.
The Party has distributed the cards to households in the Prestwich and Whitefield areas and intend to campaign at stations in Radcliffe and Bury as well.
Coun Grime said this latest stance was part of the on-going local campaign and that Greater Manchester Passenger Transport Executive was planning a deportation to London next week to lobby MPs.
