A KNIFEMAN who threatened customers at the Sedgley Park office in Prestwich fled empty-handed.

The thug took to his heels after the postmaster at the Bury New Road office refused his demands to hand over cash.

In September, the same post office was targeted in an armed raid when two robbers got away with money.

In the latest incident, which happened on Thursday at about 4.20pm, the offender entered the premises and pulled out a knife with a blade of between six and eight inches.

Police say he demanded cash and told customers they would get it if the money was not handed over.

But the postmaster refused to give him cash and the armed robber left empty handed.

The raider was described as a white male, 5ft 10in, slim with a distinctive large nose and wearing a three-quarter length white rain jacket and white ski hat.

Police are anxious to talk to anyone who witnessed the attempted robbery or who has any information about the knifeman.

They are urged to contact Whitefield CID on 0161 856 8123 or alternatively contact Crimestopppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
