FORMER Tottenham skipper Gary Mabbutt believes the appointment of Martin Jol will mean a return to attacking football at White Hart Lane this season.
Jol was appointed head coach after the resignation of Jacques Santini on Friday.
Under the former France boss Spurs scored just six goals in 11 Barclays Premiership games, frustrating fans of the club with a tradition for attacking football.
Mabbutt said: "I certainly think he will be looking to bring in some creativity to the Spurs side. He's a manager that is more adventurous than Mr Santini was and the Spurs fans will like that.
"Hopefully Mr Jol's beliefs on how the game should be played is a lot closer to (sporting director Frank) Arnesen's, so the two working together will be pulling in the same direction.
"We need some stability and hopefully things can get back to where we were, getting results and playing good football."
David Pleat was caretaker manager for much of last season after the dismissal of Glenn Hoddle, and Mabbutt was relieved that an appointment was made swiftly this season.
"It was done very quickly which is a huge plus for the club," he added.
