DAY after day we hear bad news about teenagers who make life a misery for others in our towns and housing estates.
They are blamed for drug-taking, drinking, stealing, general rowdiness and vandalism and some are such a nuisance that they are made the subject of special orders or ASBOs to curb their antics.
In such a climate that's why it is so refreshing to hear about what happened to James Salter when his powered wheelchair came to a standstill in Blackburn town centre.
James, a grandfather-of-nine suffers from cerebral palsy, has had to use the chair for 15 years and would have been well and truly lumbered if four teenagers hadn't come to his aid.
He asked for help to get to a taxi rank but the three boys and a girl pushed James a mile back to his home in Little Harwood in the pouring rain and even refused an offer of £5 for their trouble.
So suspicious are we of young people that a well-meaning motorist even pulled alongside the group during the journey to ask James if he was all right!
These big-hearted Good Samaritans are a credit to their generation. Let's hope they represent the real future of our youth.
