A MOSQUE in Clitheroe would not damage house prices in neighbouring streets, Ribble Valley councillors will be told.
Next Tuesday's meeting of the council's policy and finance committee will decide whether to sell land at the former council depot in Kirkmoor Road, to the town's Islamic Education Trust.
Councillors deferred a decision at a meeting on September 21 because they wanted to assess the suitability of the site for development and the impact of any development on residents.
The site has been valued at £400,000 and the parcel of land requested by the Islamic Education Trust at £50,000
Councillors will hear that the District Valuer believes properties in Kirkmoor Road will not depreciate if a mosque is built, although the development may cause noise nuisance.
There are fears the development may lead to vandalism, social unrest and anti-social behaviour, although by far the greatest concern relates to traffic problems and highway safety, the meeting will hear.
The situation is further complicated by requests from a local carpenter and CCTV company to buy parts of the site .
Councillors will decide on a range of options, including developing the site for sheltered bungalows, a mosque, or a carpentry business, or a combination.
