A SPIRITED Clitheroe display wasn't enough to prevent Barrow from progressing to the next round of the Lancashire FA Marsden Trophy.
The Blues went behind after only six minutes as Mike Kewley opened the Conference North side's account.
Nevertheless, Clitheroe reacted positively and began to create chances of their own.
A Paul Stansfield header was tipped onto the crossbar on 25 minutes, then he should have done better with another header but couldn't beat the goalkeeper.
Lee Cryer almost equalised for Clitheroe on 40 minutes after picking the ball up 20 yards from goal, quickly turning his marker and firing his shot on target. Unfortunately for the Blues, the ball came back off the underside of the crossbar and rebounded to safety.
Scott Maxfield headed in a second goal for Barrow on the stroke of half-time.
Clitheroe continued to search for a way back into the game in the second half but struggled to break down an experienced Barrow defence.
Late second half goals for Neil Campbell and Phil Rowland then sealed victory for the Bluebirds.
DARWEN were knocked out of the competition after being beaten 6-0 by Atherton Collieries.
Stephen Mullen's men had no response to their North West Counties Division One counterparts, who took the lead through Hughes on 17 minutes.
A Johnson brace and strikes from Peters, Conlon and an own goal completed the rout.
