BLACKBURN'S Older People's Forum is celebrating a victory after persuading transport bosses that disabled people were paying too much for bus journeys.
On behalf of one of its members, the Forum wrote to Blackburn MP Jack Straw pointing out that using a disabled pass meant having to pay for two single journeys - making it more expensive.
Thanks to the letter, and representations by Blackburn with Darwen Council which also raised the issue with the Lancashire Joint Concessionary Travel Scheme, the policy has now been changed.
Disabled people will no longer be penalised but are now entitled to half fare journeys where this is cheaper than the 50p flat fare.
