THE site of DIY giant B&Q's old store in Blackburn is being sold off.

The chain closed its smaller store, in Blakewater Road, to make way for the new superstore which opened in September.

Customers who used the out of town store at Whitebirk had to relocate when the store was shut to coincide with the opening of the new 100,000 sq ft warehouse on the junction of Bolton Road and Russell Street, Blackburn, which created 250 jobs.

The company revealed today this was always part of the plan.

Raymond Goldstone, president of the Chamber of Trade has welcomed the move.

He said: "Closing a smaller store when a bigger one opens in an area is the norm and this one is easier to access if people don't have their own transport as it can be accessed by a bus."
