BREIGHTMET UTD 1, PRESTWICH HEYS 2: GOALS from Karl Kavanagh and Abbid Uddin were enough to secure another three points and move Heys into joint-fifth in the table, with games in hand.
Manager Adie Moran made three changes to the team that lost the previous week, with Marvin Walters and Marcus Dydina coming into the back four and John Garrick returning to midfield.
They were up against a much changed Breightmet team who Heys had beaten only a few weeks ago in the cup 5-0, and the hosts were fired up for revenge.
They nearly took the lead in the fourth minute, but a goal-line clearance from Dydina prevented them from opening their account.
Indeed, it was backs-to-the-wall defending for the next 15 minutes, with the home team playing some excellent football.
But Tommy Allen in the Heys' goal was having an excellent game and the back four were holding firm.
It was at this point that Heys began to settle and produce three excellent chances for Lomax ,Uddin and Colderidge, but they failed to find the target.
With a minute to go before half time Heys produced a excellent piece of counter attacking football, with more than eight players involved and Karl Kavanagh popped up to drive a dipping volley into the Breightmet net and take Heys into 1-0 halt time lead.
The second half began with Heys taking the game to the opposition and they were rewarded in the 48th minute when Lomax played an excellent through-ball to Uddin, who rounded Thomas in the home team goal before coolly slotting the ball into the empty net to double Heys lead.
As in the previous game, Heys began to miss chances, with the usually lethal Lomax the guilty party, squandering three, one-on-ones with the keeper.
With 15 minutes remaining a sloppy piece of defending let in the home sides Walsh, who pulled a goal back.
This really lifted them and but for an excellent save from Allen, and the woodwork, which Breightmet hit twice in the last five minutes, it could have been a different outcome.
Late on Lee Colderidge was brought down in the area but no penalty was awarded, and a 2-1 win was possibly the right result over the 90 minutes.
However, Heys have got to start taking their chances if they are to improve on last years runners-up spot and win the league.
HEYS: Allen, Dydina, OBrien, Doran, Walters, Colderidge, K.Kavanagh, Roberts, Garrick, Lomax, Uddin. Subs: Slater, Price, Hunter.
l The second team's recent impressive run came to an abrupt end with a dismal display at home to East Manchester, losing 4-1, with Phil Woodcock getting Heys' only goal. The U15 had an excellent 6-3 win over Roche FC.
