PRESTWICH, Whitefield and Unsworth will come to a standstill on Sunday as the towns remember the fallen heroes of war.

Remembrance Day services and parades will take place simultaneously in the Bury South area and throughout the country.

Proceedings will begin in Prestwich at 9.30am with a service at Heaton Park Congregational Church.

People will then gather at Prestwich Royal British Legion to start the traditional parade to the cenotaph at 10.40am.

The procession will make its way along Bury Old Road, into Whittaker Lane and along Rectory Lane to the war memorial at PADOS House, where two minutes silence will be observed at 11am.

In Whitefield, Stand All Saints Church will be the venue for a family service at 10am led by guest vicar Rev Frank Bibby.

Two minutes silence will take place in church, followed by a procession along Church Lane to the war memorial on the corner of Church Lane and Higher Lane.

Wreaths will be laid at Unsworth Pole in a ceremony at 11am after the traditional church service at St Georges, which starts at 9.45am. Canon Ralph Mallinson will conduct the service.
