AN ANGRY trader says he is ready to wage war on the new style traffic wardens.
Shop owners Mike Ward is 'sick and tired' of being booked left, right and centre by the Parkwise attendants.
Mike, who single-handedly runs RTM in Claremont Road, Morecambe, says they are making it very hard for him to run his business properly.
"I have a van and so park outside my shop in the morning and then have to move it after one hour. Everywhere around here is restricted and so I have to keep moving," he says.
"I am on my own and so I have to shut the shop up each time I go out, which is not good for trade. I have been caught out a few times and have had to pay the fine.
Mike, who says other shop owners in the area are backing his protest, goes on: "Before Parkwise came in the other wardens were reasonable about it and if the road was busy would just ask us to move our vehicles, which we didn't mind."
He says there is nowhere for the shop owners to park in the area because all the streets are either residential or time restricted.
And what angers them most more is that once a ticket has been issued there is no right of appeal.
"You are forced to pay it because if you do not cough up within 14 days the fine goes up," he adds.
A spokesman for Lancaster City Council, says there are no new parking restrictions under the new on-street enforcement arrangements known as ParkWise.
Drivers receiving penalty charge notices (PCNs) do have the right of appeal and should write to ParkWise, PO Box 1023, Preston PR1 3ZA.
She adds: "If drivers are unable to resolve their appeal with ParkWise or the council their case can be considered by an independent adjudicator.
"Traders who are unhappy with the parking arrangements and restrictions in Claremont Road should contact engineering services at Morecambe Town Hall."
