WOULD somebody please clarify the law with regard to zig-zag lines and zebra crossings?
The reason I ask is that I thought that all zebra crossings had to be marked, but it seems that Bury Council has a rule of their own when it comes to markings.
There is a crossing in Silver Street, at the junction with Broad Street, in Bury town centre, where the lines have been painted out on the approach to the crossing. The only reason that I can see is so that the council can collect revenue from parking bays on the approach to the crossing.
The crossing is nearly invisible to motorists as it is positioned on top of a speed hump. As a consequence, pedestrians, seeing a vehicle slowing down, go to cross only to find that the vehicle is slowing for the speed hump and not for the crossing.
Will the council do something about this crossing before someone is injured and sues them.
