I HOPE Mark Hallam (Citizen letters, October 28) can be reimbursed his 20-odd pence for the second class stamp on his letter criticising police for mounting a vehicle check in Lancaster - his missive was obviously a waste of time and money.

He was concerned over the timing of the check-point at the old Kingsway baths. Perhaps he feels it should have been done late in the evening when only three of four cars an hour were going past.

The delays he mentioned could probably be explained by the fact that the 'innocent people' he defends were moving over from the right hand lane to the left to ensure they were not stopped. Thus, the one-way system was reduced to one lane.

It is very easy to pass off your opinion as fact, especially when you choose a target like the police and are always likely to have eager readers. But in this case Mark is full of opinion but short on fact.
