PARENTS of disabled children are being offered advice to help them plan for the future.
An event, organised by Mencap, will offer expert advice to parents of children with a learning disability to ensure the financial security of their children after their lifetime.
A solicitor with specialist knowledge will hold the event on Tuesday, December 14, at Rossendale Mencap Gateway, Old Warth Road, Waterfoot, alongside Mencap, the UK's leading learning disability charity.
The information event, from 10.30am to1.30pm, forms part of a national programme.
It aims to ensure that all aspects of leaving a legacy to people with a learning disability are covered.
Information packs are also provided.
Every year thousands of parents of people with a learning disability contact Mencap for advice.
They want to leave money in a will without affecting their children's rights to benefits or local authority funding.
These parents want to ensure that money left by them will be used to provide extras for their children.
Seminar co-ordinator Liz Dean said: "The Planning for the Futur' seminar is an ideal opportunity for parents of people with a learning disability to get reliable advice.
"It's about providing peace of mind by securing the future of the children."
Mencap works with people with a learning disability and their families and carers.
It battles to end discrimination and prejudice and provides a wide range of services.
There are around 1.5 million people with a learning disability in the UK.
Anyone who would like to reserve a place or would like more information call Gina Collins in the Mencap Legacy Department on 0207 696 6925.
