RIBBLE Valley Tory MP Nigel Evans has attacked a controversial chief constable for using computer-generated statements in speeding prosecutions.

Richard Brunstron, head of the North Wales force and the leader of the campaign against motoring crime, has been forced to suspend dozens of case of drivers caught on speed cameras.

Officers and prosecutors have allegedly used sworn officer statements in court that were generated by computers and signed.

Judge Derek Halbert branded the procedure "utterly inappropriate" and warned Mr Brunstron that if it happened again he would report him to the Director of Public Prosecutions.

Mr Evans, a Conservative vice-chairman and former Shadow Welsh Secretary, said: "He is not just cutting corners, he is cutting justice. This is cut and paste injustice. It is barmy.

"Clearly he won't be happy until no-one is left driving. He is prepared to railroad the procedures so that there is no justice at all when people appeal against prosecutions which could lose them their licence."
