A 20 YEAR-old man arrested for drink driving "flipped" when he saw his own blood being removed by a police doctor.

Blackburn magistrates heard that Danny Lee Riley said he was going to punch the doctor before grabbing the needle and threatening to stab him with it.

And the court heard the incident represented a 'Jeckyll and Hyde' type change for a man who up until then had been totally co-operative.

Riley, of Beechwood Drive, Feniscowles, pleaded guilty to harassment, failing to provide a sample, driving while disqualified and without insurance. He was jailed for a total of 17 weeks and disqualified from driving for 18 months.

Neil White, prosecuting, said it was Riley's tenth conviction for disqualified driving.

He had attracted the attention of the police when he pulled out in front of a patrol car forcing it to brake to avoid a collision. He drove off but then pulled onto a garage forecourt and when approached by the police said: "I'm dizzy, I don't need a solicitor, let's do it."

"He appeared to be under the influence of something and after giving a breath sample which was marginally over the limit he opted to give a blood sample," said Mr White.

"While the doctor was taking the sample the defendant became aggressive."

Michael Blacklidge, defending, said his client had been fully so-operative until the blood sample procedure.

"He accepts that when he saw the blood he flipped," said Mr Blacklidge. "He is very sorry for his attitude towards the doctor who he accepts must have been extremely distressed."
