A FAMILY doctor at a Prestwich medical centre has been suspended.
Action was taken against Dr Laurence Sherman, a GP at the Greyland Medical Centre on Bury Old Road, on Tuesday.
He will remain suspended for four months while the local health authority carry out an investigation into a number of matters which are not being disclosed by Bury Primary Care Trust (PCT).
A statement released by Bury PCT said: "We can confirm that Dr Laurence Sherman was suspended from the PCT's performers lists under the provisions of the NHS (Performers Lists) Regulations 2004.
"The decision to suspend was taken by the PCT after receiving information highlighting a number of matters that are currently being investigated by the PCT. Dr Sherman's suspension is a neutral act during this investigation and is not a disciplinary matter."
A locum GP will continue to provide care for patients during Dr Sherman's absence.
Patients of the centre are being asked to continue to contact and attend appointments in the usual way.
Patients at this or any practice who have concerns should contact the PCT Patient Advice and Liaison Service Manager (PALS Manager) on freephone 0800 328 3166.
