COMMUNITY wardens and police have carried out a high-profile litter blitz in the Colne Road area of Burnley.
The move followed complaints from residents about litter louts during recent police and Community Together (PACT) meetings.
During the blitz, Police Community Support Officer Nigel Keates and PC Richard Collopy handed out £50 fixed penalty tickets to anyone caught flouting the law. Burnley's Community Wardens helped by reporting offenders and informing people of the campaign.
PCSO Nigel Keates said: "Local residents and members of the Burnley Lane Residents Group have worked tirelessly along with Burnley Council's Operation Red Card to successfully clear the area's grot spots.
"Our action is designed to support their efforts and reinforce the message that irresponsible members of the community have two choices: clear up or pay up.
"Given that the activity is in direct response to concerns raised at police meetings, we are hoping that the action will also reassure local residents that we are listening to, and tackling their concerns."
