AN environmental group and residents have joined forces to fight developers appealing against a decision to throw out plans for a major housing development.
People living near the former Vineyard Hotel site, Chorley Road, Walton-le-Dale and representatives from the Campaign to Protect Rural England (CPRE) will descend on Leyland's Civic Centre, West Paddock, on November 23.
They will raise objections at an appeal by Persimmon Homes, against the refusal of an application in March to build a three and four-storey block of 58 flats on the derelict site.
The main concerns are the building's height, location and Traffic problems. The site also backs onto protected woodland.
Two years ago George Wimpey Homes submitted plans to South Ribble Borough Council to build 66 two and three-storey homes, but were refused.
The CPRE has similar objections to the residents and believe the planned development is not in keeping with the area because of its size. Mum-of-three, Andrea Ball, 35, whose home on Ambleway overlooks the site, said: "We don't want to raise the same issues separately at the appeal so we decided to get together.
"We're not against housing being there, but not a four storey block of flats." Traffic is also a concern for Andrea who has seen four accidents in the last four months.
No one at Persimmon Homes was available for comment.
