WHEN I read recently that our poor city councillors are so cash-starved that they are planning to cancel some of our festivals and events it gave me the biggest laugh I have had in decades.

Why? Because their sheer incompetence and lack of imagination is costing us all - whether business people, hoteliers, market traders or simple council tax payers - huge amounts of revenue that this area relies on to survive.

Morecambe Bay itself is one of the most scenic bays in the UK while the historic city of Lancaster and the railway town of Carnforth are both well known worldwide.

With all these tourist attractions it begs a number of questions - such as when was the last time you saw anyone from Lancaster City Council on regional or national TV or in the national media telling the world exactly what the area has to offer?

It seems that every time you turn on the television or read the media these days you see councillors from Liverpool, Chester, Blackpool and Manchester selling their cities and towns to the world. But what do we hear from Lancaster? Exactly nothing.

Remember who it was who decided that a home for Morecambe's RNLI hovercraft was a lesser priority than that useless piece of junk that has now been built on the promenade blocking the beautiful view of the bay.

Also, Morecambe Bay in its heyday had an excellent public transport system that catered for everyone. This has been replaced by one that simply fails to deliver that same level of excellence.
