ROCHDALE 13 SEDGLEY PARK 12: ROCHDALE dominated the first half, kicking accurately, following up with speed and determination.
Their tackling pressurised Sedgley into errors, and for most of the first period they were pinned into their own half.
After 20 minutes Rochdale went 3-0 ahead with a successful penalty kick.
Sedgleys best move saw Johnny Appletons pass to unmarked winger Johnny Carr ruled forward.
On the stroke of half time Rochdale increased their lead to 6-0 with a second penalty kick.
In the second half Sedgley finally got down to basics, recycling ruck ball and putting Rochdale under pressure.
As a result Rochdale resorted to killing the ruck ball, and after four infringements in three minutes, had a player sin-binned.
From the resultant penalty Albinson tapped the ball to himself and crashed through a static Rochdale defence for a try, which scrum half Simon Davidson converted to put Sedgley in a 7-6 lead.
After Sedgley failed with another kickable penalty, both teams lost a player to the sin-bin after a fracas.
Eventually Rochdale capitalised when a kick and chase led Sedgley to turn the ball over in their own 22.
After quick passing and forceful running the Rochdale centre scored a try under the posts.
The conversion put Rochdale ahead 13-7 with 10 minutes left to play.
In the final minute Albinson fired out a long pass to replacement hooker Stefan Urban, who scored in the corner to reduce the deficit to one point.
Davidson's kick from the touch line swung in at the last moment but hit the post to leave Rochdale the deserved winners.
