PEOPLE in Pendle are being asked where they want to live.
The electoral map for Lancashire County Council is being redrawn to even out the number of people in each ward.
But people living in Brierfield and north Nelson now have homes in Pendle Central West, while those in south Nelson live in Pendle Central South.
County councillor David Whipp, who lives in Barnoldswick, is campaigning for the names to reflect titles people are familiar with. But he needs residents to write to the Electoral Commission to add weight to his fear voters will not know where the wards refer to.
Coun Whipp said: "We need sensible names for the new county electoral divisions in Pendle. I've already won this battle for West Craven.
"The obvious point with including Nelson and Brierfield in the names is that they are the place names of the areas represented -- they actually mean something to local people."
The county council is supporting Coun Whipp's campaign, but it needs to prove the need for different names because the Electoral Commission will not accept the council's assertion that there is a problem. The deadline for submissions to the Electoral Commission is Tuesday. Comments to tatkinson@ electoralcommission.org.uk
