A PRESTWICH charity worker is to take the ultimate leap of faith to raise money for the blind and visually-impaired.

Helen Clayton works as a corporate fundraising manager for Henshaws Society for Blind People and on Sunday she will plunge 100 feet in a sponsored abseil.

Whats more, the brave 29-year-old is to complete the task blindfolded.

She said: "Being blindfolded is a crude representation of what it is like to be visually impaired. We have people here who do extraordinary things and I wanted to try and experience how more difficult it could become with a blindfold on and to raise awareness."

Helen, of Naseby Place, has roped in her husband Jamie, friend Dan Wand, also from Prestwich, and her father Steve Ingram, who lives in Sunnybank, to join her in raising money for the Old Trafford-based charity which helps blind and visually impaired people in the local community.

The challenge will take place at Manchester Velodrome from 10am and Helen is feeling a little apprehensive about the task before her.

She added: "It is scary enough as it is to do an abseil but doing it blindfolded doubles it. This will be a first for all of us and we are very excited, particularly as we are getting together as a family to raise money for Henshaws."

Supporters are welcome to watch the abseil and to sponsor Helen, contact her at Henshaws on 0161 872 1234.
