A CLUB boss proposed to his girlfriend aboard a fire engine.
It was a case of all hands to the pump as Peter Clarke, owner of Heaven and Hell, Blackburn, enlisted the help of the landlord of the Knowles Arms, Pleckgate Road, and a rented fire engine, complete with crew, to ask Julie Jones, his girlfriend of two years, for her hand in marriage.
Romantic Peter,44, of Belthorn Road, had arranged to take Julie, a special needs teacher at Blackburn's Broadlands School, to the pub where they met two years ago to celebrate their second anniversary.
During the lunch Peter crawled out of the gents' window, put on a fireman's uniform and then, with sirens blaring rushed back to the pub, where an anxious Julie was waiting.
Once there, the sirens died down and were replaced by "their song" DJ Sammy's hit, Heaven. He swept Julie into his arms, went down on bended knee and popped the question. And she said yes!
The happy couple have not yet set a date but plan to get married next year.
