STEVE Cotterill revealed the tactical change that allowed Burnley to claim back-to-back wins for the first time during his reign.

The Burnley boss waited just 15 minutes before moving Ian Moore from an orthodox striking role to the left wing in a masterstroke that swung the pendulum his way.

The Clarets then took a stranglehold over Brighton before sealing a merited victory courtesy of Robbie Blake's second half strike.

Cotterill said: "Early on, when Brighton had the extra man in midfield, we didn't get to grips with that and shuffle over like we could have.

"I was going to leave it until half time before changing, but then I thought leaving it might be to our detriment.

"We changed and moved Ian across and I thought we got a grip of the game straight away.

"We had three or four good chances in the first half and could have had a penalty from a blatant hand ball.

"Then we hit the bar and post, but it all worked out in the end and I'm delighted. It's the first time we've had back-to-back wins this season, which is a big thing for us."

Blake's 10th goal of the season was only the Clarets fifth away from Turf Moor in the league this season.

Resolute defending has also restricted home teams to just six goals - three of them coming on one game at QPR last month.

But Cotterill insisted that such statistics could be misleading. He added: "People say we might be finding goals hard to come by away from home, but not if we had taken our chances.

"In the first half here, we could have scored three goals and that's been no different in any other game.

"I've said it before, but we need to be a bit more ruthless with our chances and one of these days we are going to give someone a real good hiding.

"Brighton played with just one man up front, but we ended up changing our system so there is nothing wrong with that tactic.

"We've done that ourselves and it all depends on other areas of your team and what you are going to do with the ball.

"I thought when we switched from 4-4-2 to how we have played a lot this season, we dealt with things very well.

"Brian Jensen deserved his clean sheet for a terrific early save, but all the lads worked really hard.

"It probably wasn't one of Robbie's better performances, but thankfully that one dropped for him.

"We could have scored more, but if someone had said we would win 1-0 we couldn't have asked for more."
