COLNE 5 CONGLETON 0
THE Red Army turned out in force again as 245 spectators roared Colne into the next round of the Vase with a 5-0 demolition of Congleton Town.
If anything the home side started tentatively and it was Town who looked the most likely to break through.
But these days the Reds are resilient and patient and gradually got on top.
Steve Cunningham opened the scoring on 10 minutes after Colne were awarded a free kick on the edge of the Town area. Cunningham produced the goods with a dipping shot that went in off the post.
Colne stepped up a gear as Chris Ingham and Ian Simpson both had chances to increase the lead.
Two James Webster corners produced further chances for Simpson and Carl Haworth before Colne struck again on the stroke of half-time.
A seven-man move ended with Cunningham's cross being slotted home by Haworth for goal number two.
The second half started with a bang and the game was killed off two minutes after the re-start.
A Haworth cross into the area caused havoc and after several attempts to force the ball home, Ingham was on hand to make it 3-0.
With the game lost, Congleton's discipline was tested and they went down to 10 men when their captain was sent off.
Colne made use of the substitutes' bench in the last 20 minutes and added two late goals from Roberts and Simpson as Town's challenge fell away.
