BLACKBURN Rovers manager Mark Hughes will meet with Steven Reid today to discuss how the midfielder plans to respond to a Football Association charge.

Reid was charged with improper conduct by the FA yesterday after appearing to elbow Birmingham's Jesper Gronkjaer in the stomach during Sunday's 3-3 draw at Ewood Park.

The duo were jostling in the penalty area before a Blackburn corner when Reid seemed to throw his arm towards the Danish winger.

Referee Neale Barry and his assistants took no action against the Republic of Ireland midfielder at the time but the FA have since charged the player, who has until December 7 to formally respond.

"Mark will sit down with Steven today and view the tape and then we'll decide how to respond to the charge after that," said Rovers' chief executive John Williams.

Reid has become an integral member of Hughes' first team plans over the last few weeks, having started each of Rovers' last six games.

He was man of the match in the eyes of many observers on Sunday as his first goal for Rovers sparked a courageous second half fight-back.

It would, therefore, be a blow to Hughes if the former Millwall player gets hit with a suspension.

Referring to his performance on Sunday, Reid said: "To be honest, I was disappointed with the way I played in the first half.

"For their second goal, I should have cleared it but we regrouped at half-time and our second half performance was outstanding.

"David Thompson and Paul Gallagher came on and showed plenty of enthusiasm and Thommo, in particular, showed a great deal of spirit and fight and that drove us on.

"From a personal point of view, I was delighted to get my first goal for the club but at the same time I think we've got to be disappointed to score three goals at home and not pick up the three points.

"It's all well and good talking about character and grinding out results but we want to start putting a few more points on the board by getting some wins."

In the meantime, Youri Djorkaeff could be out of action for a couple of weeks after damaging his hamstring in training.

The former Bolton player's last start for Rovers came in the 4-0 defeat at Chelsea a month ago.

Since then, the Frenchman has been laid low by a bout of sickness and now it looks as though he will be absent for the games against Fulham on Saturday and Tottenham on Saturday week.

Hughes explained: "Youri tweaked his hamstring during training and is having treatment.

"We expect him to be on the sidelines for a couple of weeks."

Meanwhile, Rovers' medical staff are hopeful Jon Stead will be available for the weekend trip to Craven Cottage.

Stead was ruled out of Sunday's game against Birmingham after failing a fitness test as a result of the ankle injury he picked up against Manchester City.

But he's making good process in his bid to recover and should be back in contention shortly.

However, fellow striker Matt Jansen picked up a hamstring strain on Sunday and the club are now considering the possibility of bringing forward his cartilage operation if the 27-year-old is going to be sidelined anyway.

Rovers reserves are away to Nottingham Forest tonight (kick off 7pm).

New manager Glyn Hodges has picked a youthful squad featuring a number of Academy players.

The squad is: Enckelman, Danns, Morgan, Donnelly, Fitzgerald, Bruce, Hodge, Harkins, Barker, Johnson, Peter, Drench, Byrom, Peers, Jones, Garner.
