CLITHEROE once again failed to make their pressure and possession count and slipped to a second defeat since manager Lee Sculpher left the club.
Warrington staged a classic smash and grab raid as they absorbed the Blues pressure and then scored with their only real chance of the game.
Despite dominating for long periods the Blues failed to create many clear cut goal scoring opportunities and when they had a sight of goal were unable to capitalise.
Jason Jones saw a scorching volley fly wide in the first half and Steve McDonald also came close when his run ended with a shot also going wide of the post.
The second half followed a similar pattern but not for the first time this season Clitheroe's inability to score goals was to prove costly.
Lee Cryer couldn't reach a Jones cross, and Jones himself had a shot well saved as Warrington continued to ride their luck.
On 71 minutes Clitheroe were made to pay when substitute Michael Heverin shot home.
Clitheroe continued to push forward but only had a couple of goalmouth scrambles to show for their efforts as will need to quickly regroup before Saturday's derby game at home to Rossendale.
Rossendale suffered a reversal last night as they were beaten 1-0 by Woodley Sports at Dark Lane - Knight scoring the second half winner.
