BLACKBURN midfielder Steve Reid has vowed to score the goals needed to shoot Rovers up the Premier League table.

Reid opened his goalscoring account for the club when he found the net in Sunday's epic 3-3 draw with Birmingham City.

And now the Republic of Ireland international has set himself a personal target of at least five more over the rest of the season as he aims to share the burden for goals with the strikers.

So far, Rovers have only scored 14 goals as a team in their opening 14 league games and only five of that tally have come from the midfield.

But Reid featured regularly on the scoresheet during his days as a Millwall player and now he's hoping to reproduce that form in the Premiership.

"I've got my first now so hopefully there'll be a few more to come," said Reid.

"We've got to look all over the park for goals and not just rely on the two lads up front.

"If myself, the rest of the midfielders and the defenders can chip in with the odd goal here and there then that's going to make life easier for the strikers and the team all round.

"I used to score quite a few for Millwall so maybe now I need to get a few more shots away and start chipping in myself.

"I should be looking at getting between five and 10 goals a season and now I've got my first, I hope that signals the start of a little run."

Reid failed to find the net during his first season at Rovers as injuries restricted him to just 19 appearances.

However, the 23-year-old is currently enjoying his longest unbroken run in the first team and he hopes that will lead to a more productive spell in front of goal.

"In most of the games last season when I did play, I ended up playing at right back," said Reid.

"But I've started the last six games in midfield and that's the longest run I've had in the side since I've been at the club.

"I've also played 90 minutes in each of those games, whereas last season I only managed that on one occasion.

"So if I can keep my place then hopefully the goals will come."

In the meantime, Rovers head for Fulham this weekend where they are likely to face Ewood old boy Andy Cole.

And Reid believes his former team-mate will be fired up to prove a point against his old club.

"We all know about Coley's qualities because he's proved what a great player he is over the last 10 years in the Premier League," said Reid.

"He'll be out to score goals as always so we're going to have to watch him closely but they've also got several other good players in their team.

"That said, looking at our second half performance on Sunday we can go into the game with a lot more confidence.

"We need to start well again but this time let's hope we kick on rather than start digging a hole for ourselves, which leaves us fighting to get back into the game."
