A FURTHER public meeting to discuss a crucial element of Morecambe's draft West End Masterplan is to be held at the Platform.

Local people are being asked to have a second look at plans for The Battery and Sandy-lands promenade.

It follows public consultations in September when hundreds of people commented on the 'blueprint' for resort revival.

The West End's official steering group is now close to making a final decision but wants to hear more views on plans for the Battery and promenade.

The meeting, to be chaired by Morecambe and Lunesdale MP Geraldine Smith, will debate this issue alone.

Lancaster city council's director of regeneration John Donnellon says: "We are particularly pleased with the support for the plan but fully recognise that the proposals for the Battery and promenade are controversial.

"The plan seeks to make a bold and striking statement about the renewal of the area and promote the regeneration taking place in Morecambe as a whole.

"The Battery and Promenade offer the one real opportunity in the area for a significant architectural statement that will raise investor confidence and provide a symbol of positive change.

"The alternative would be to leave them untouched. It's a big decision about a key site on the promenade and of interest to not only people in the West End but residents and business people from throughout the town.

"We hope anyone interested in this aspect of the plan will attend the meeting."

o The meeting takes place on Thursday, December 2 at 7pm.
