A MAN has been arrested after police received reports that a car was being driven into a house in Accrington.
Residents in Augusta Street were woken up at around 5.20am today by the sound of a car revving.
Peter Downton said he thought someone might be be stealing a car, but when he looked out of the window he saw that the driver of a green Ford estate car had pulled it on to the pavement with the front of the vehicle pointing towards a house across the street.
Peter, 25, said: "It was driven into the front of the house three or four times. It was an almighty smash and there was smoke everywhere."
By the time the police arrived the driver had got out and gone into a house in Augusta Street, but the car was still up on the pavement with the engine running and lights on.
Firefighters were also called to the scene and helped push the car on to the road.
Sgt Mark Porter, of Accrington police, said: " The driver was seen to leave the car and go into an address. Officers arrested a man on suspicion of being unfit to drive through drink or drugs."
