THE reward to help catch an armed gang that carried out a daring daylight robbery at a Carnforth town centre bank has been increased by £10,000.

A £25,000 reward is now being offered to anyone who can identify the armed three-man gang who smashed their way into Barclays Bank in Market Street on August 3.

Despite being featured on TV's Crimewatch and several appeals for witnesses through the local media, detectives are no closer to catching the gang.

The robbery took place at 9.25am - just 10 minutes after a Securicor vehicle had dropped off a consignment of cash at the bank branch.

The balaclava-clad men used a beer barrel to smash their way into the building and threatened staff before escaping with an undisclosed amount of cash.

The gang used a stolen Alpha Romeo in the robbery, abandoning it in nearby Queens Road before escaping in another vehicle.

The car had been stolen from a man in Northwich, Cheshire, two days earlier by a gang of four men in balaclavas and dressed in black.

Anyone with information on the robbery or the gang is urged to call the police incident room on 01524-596941 or Crimestoppers hotline on 0800-555111.
