THE news that Kiddies Corner on the promenade at Cleveleys will not be forced to close next year is a fantastic early Christmas present for thousands of local families and visitors alike.
It is reassuring to see that Wyre Borough Council have listened to peoples concerns. We estimate that over 20,000 people sent in protest cards to Wyre Borough Council.
The campaign to save Kiddies Corner was a marvellous joint effort between local families, local businesses, visitors, local politicians, as well as local schools and other community minded groups in Cleveleys.
The Mason family have taken a very dignified stance, refraining from any knee jerk reactions but listening to and supporting those who wished to keep Kiddies Corner open.
The inspiration behind the campaign has been Mrs Kay Kenworthy, who has worked tirelessly promoting the campaign and has been out in all weathers drumming up support. She has been ably assisted by Mrs Sheila Halliwell and a host of local volunteers.
I don't think the editor would allow me the space to name every one who has helped but they know who they are and the campaign group is truly grateful for their efforts.
Special thanks should also go to the Citizen and its readers - they have been fantastic, a shining example of people power.
We may have won this battle but there is much still to do in Cleveleys. We welcome the sea defence works and welcome the beautification of the promenade, but Kiddies Corner is just right where it is - please leave it there!
