A GOOD Santa is up for hire and ready to spread Christmas joy to families at home from December 1.

Atherton Cllr Mark Aldred will once again don the red costume to support Wigan Infirmary's Special Care Baby Unit - the Mayor Cllr John Hilton's charity appeal for his year in office.

Mark said: "As the festive film "Bad Santa' takes cinemas by storm I'm determined to prove that there's more to Father Christmas than the Billy Bob Thornton version.

"This year's Mayor's charity appeal, like Christmas, is about children and the more money we can raise for the special care baby unit the better. Father Christmas visited more than 300 children last year and we hope to beat that record this year. Unlike Bad Santa this Santa is house trained and believes in giving a moment of joy to all children in the borough."

Good Santa is available for a fee of £3 per child, including a gift, with a minimum of four children necessary for each house call. For a donation to charity coffers he will also visit community groups and town centres (evenings and weekends only).
