SHARP shooter Daniel Stubberfield is ready to rectify Padiham's goalscoring crisis.

The striker, who left the Arbories for North West Counties Division One neighbours Ramsbottom, has returned to the Storks on loan after failing to nail down a regular first team place.

And assistant manager Paul Baker is delighted to have him back in the fold, especially as it means he won't be called into action again.

The former Great Harwood Town and Darwen striker was coaxed out of retirement on the eve of his 40th birthday. And it proved to be a long day.

"I had to get up at 4am for a charity walk from Blackpool to Cherry Tree," he said.

"I wasn't actually doing the walk because I knew I'd be playing later on. I was just helping out."

Baker will watch from the sidelines when Padiham entertain fellow title challengers Winsford tomorrow, as Stubberfield is expected to go straight into the starting line-up in the absence of the injured Denny Khan (hamstring) and Matt Morris (shoulder).

"I think Derek Egan is happy with what he's got at Ramsbottom for the time being so we're happy to have Daniel back to give us options up front," Baker said.

NELSON have whisked in Steve Dryden as emergency cover for goalkeeper Billy Carrington.

The Ramsbottom United goalkeeper has come in on loan to replace Carrington, who has suffered a ligament injury.

Sixth-placed Nelson are at home to Norton United in North West Counties Division Two tomorrow.
