A NEW extension will put Belmont Primary School among the leaders in local IT education, it is claimed.

Headteacher Chris Hoddle announced the work was due to be completed within the next few weeks.

He was also cheered by an encouraging Ofsted report.

Inspectors said Belmont was a 'very good school that provides a very good standard of education' and also found the leadership and management of the school "very good".

It also praised the dedication of Mr Hoddle and deputy headteacher Tressa Paczek in promoting a positive ethos for learning and commended staff for being excellent role models.

Years three to five pupils were praised in mathematics, science and reading and the achievements of children in years two and six were described as "well above average".

Mr Hoddle said: "We are very pleased that the inspectors were able to confirm what we all knew about our small rural school.

"For many years we have worked together as a very united team of dedicated staff and the report has recognised all our efforts in providing an excellent standard of education at Belmont.

"I am of course very proud of our staff and pupils for their ongoing hard work and commitment to improving the school.

"Since the report the school has made further improvements particularly with respect to the accommodation. An extension which will enable the school to have four class bases, each with their own interactive whiteboards and each with their own suite of networked computers, will be ready within the next few weeks.

"This will enable us to provide even greater opportunities for the children. Belmont will be among the leading schools for IT provision."
